Spring 2024 Trend Report

It’s hard to outshine spring when it comes to sartorial inspiration. These three trends are as glittery as the next. First, a palette cleanser of Strawberry Sorbet. Then, a bit bolder, structural trend of Contemporary Corsets. And finally, a surprise ending: Sand Dune is the neutral of the hour—warm, hopeful, and grounding; the perfect embodiment of spring.

What could be more delightful? Our first trend for spring is “Strawberry Sorbet,” a peaceful, divine shade of pink that’s bubbly and bright, individualized with just a hint of peach. Chanel knows how to use this upscale rose like no other. Every single one of Virginie Viard’s couture confections looked like they belonged in an ice cream parlor. We’re highlighting this gentle peony hue, which added a pop against the brand’s beloved black and white classics. Take this feminine shade for a twirl this season!

Modeling this artful coral in the real world (also known as the red carpet), the glamorous Emma Stone turned heads in an asymmetrical Louis Vuitton gown with a fondant hemline and matching buttons along the side (a nod to our next trend, the corset!). And equally rad, actress Ayo Edebiri radiated Old Hollywood glamour in a creamsicle Bottega Veneta number with a sweeping neckline and feathery boa for added drama.

On the dance floor, take this youthful cherry blossom shade for a spin. Embroidered accents, gilded decals, or cutouts add extra flair—feathered boas optional!

We’ve seen the corsetry trend circling the ready-to-wear runways, making a renaissance each spring and summer, usually with antique piping and playful frills. But this season, the corset-inspired bodices proved more romantic, whimsical even, despite their structured appeal. The style feels especially fitting for dance dresses, evoking leaping ballerinas and fairytale endings. Jean Paul Gaultier’s capsule featured a Parisian palette of rouge, beige, and noir, with just a hint of lime for a surprising hint of zest.

Actresses Maddie Ziegler and Florence Pugh demoed two vastly different, but equally lovely, takes on the contemporary corset trend. Ziegler’s vintage Alexander McQueen slip appeared deconstructed, like a muslin undergarment, with evocative stitching and tulle adding an overture of “je ne sais quoi”. And Pugh went bold in a vivacious royal black Harris Reed gown with a distinct, eye-catching silvery corset, moodier than her impeccably smoky eyes.

And finally, we return to the earth, to the ground, for inspiration and nourishment, that stills and excites in equal measure. Dior’s Spring/Summer couture collection began with a lesson on restraint, an ode to warm neutrals that balance springtime palettes. The first few handmade dresses featured delicately wrapped shrouds in walnut and camel. These sandy browns eventually gave blossom to more colorful getups, in dandelion ochre or wildflower lilac. But the gorgeous mocha hues captivated our imaginations.

The same can be said for off the runways. On the red carpet this award season, actress Joey King stepped out (in her newly bronzed locks, no less), radiating in a sun-dimpled, nutty Givenchy gown, elevated with floral cutouts and a dramatic velvety black neckline. For a more glittered take on this springtime neutral trend, actress Deepika Padrone sparkled in a Sabyasachi number featuring a sumptuous wrap silhouette and starry sequins, with matching sand-toned earrings and eye shadow.
